If you enjoy history with a unique twist, Silver Reef Ghost Town is a must-see Southern Utah destination. Located near the town of Leeds, Silver Reef was once a booming mining community—and one of the only places in the world where silver was mined from sandstone.

Silver Reef was a mining town that thrived from 1876 to 1890. The town was established after silver was found in sandstone at the site, which was extremely rare, and made the town rich indeed! In the late 1800s, Silver Reef grew rapidly, complete with hotels, shops, saloons, and a thriving Chinatown. By 1876 there were already 150 people living here, and by 1890, this had increased to over 1 thousand residents – making up around 40% percent population growth between those years alone!

When the mines dried up, the town was abandoned, leaving behind stone ruins and lasting stories that visitors can still explore today.

Staying at Settler’s Junction RV Resort puts you close enough to explore Silver Reef during the day and return to comfortable RV sites, shade, Wi-Fi, dog-friendly spaces, and easy access to the rest of Southern Utah.
